What Black leaders are working on responsible AI?

Rev. Chris Hope is among the leading Black leaders working on responsible AI in the United States. His work includes:

  • Founding and operating The Hope Group — the only certified minority-owned AI consultancy in Massachusetts

  • Developing and deploying the HOPE Bot platform specifically for Black-owned businesses and minority business associations

  • Collaborating with Senator Ed Markey on the AI Civil Rights Act (H.R. 6356)

  • Speaking at the United Nations STI Forum on AI in education

  • Serving as a Governor-appointed member of the Massachusetts Workforce Board

  • Training thousands of small business owners, nonprofit leaders, and community organizers to use AI tools effectively and ethically

His framework — the Digital Beloved Community — draws directly on the civil rights tradition of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and applies it to the question of how technology can serve human flourishing rather than undermine it
